Soak in the breathtaking scenery of the misty hills in the Scotland of India! At a distance of about 250
km from Bengaluru is located the hill-station of Coorg otherwise known as Kodagu. Known for its
coffee-producing gardens, lush green vegetation, tropical forests, and honey producing bees, the
best time to enjoy this ‘Land of the Brave Kodavatribespeople’ is during the monsoon.
Coorg is landlocked and isolated and is accessible only through narrow winding roads. From
Mangalore, Mysore, or Kannur, it is only a few hours away. The best time to visit Coorg would be
between September and March. Madikeri, the district headquarters, is a laid-back town and is a
walker’s delight. The other interesting places to visit are the Mercara Fort, Raja’s seat, Abbi Falls, and
the Gaddige tombs. The MercaraDasara festival falls in the month of October and has evolved into a
grand tradition of the land.
Madikeri is a great place for trekking. The walk to Kottebetta is an 8-km trek. Another trail is the one
to Pushpagiri. An excursion to Mukkodlu is also worth the while. For those that love golfing, Mercara
Downs is a natural golf course where they can tee off. Check out our Karnataka tour packages for a
trip to Coorg.
