Unwind at the tranquil and quiet Marari Beach located just about midway between the towns of
Kochi and Alappuzha. It is an idyllic beach that is located by the side of a fishing village, Mararikulam,
with swaying palms and bright sands. It has been listed among the top 5 Hammock Beaches in the
world by National Geographic Survey.
Marari Beach is a place where you can take part in water sports such as using the speedboat or the
water scooter. Deep sea fishing is yet another activity that you can indulge in. If you like just cycling
around the fishing villages then you can do so.
If you are at Mararikulam during the months of August, do not fail; to attend the snake boat races of
Alappuzha. That is an experience that one should not miss.
Other places that you can visit close by are the Mararikulam Siva Temple, Kokkamangalam St.
Thomas Pilgrim Centre, Thumpolly Beach, Thiruvizha Siva Temple, Arthunkal pilgrim centre,
traditional coir-making units, and the ReviKarunakaran Museum in Alappuzha that houses an
extensive one-man collection of artefacts from all over the world. A visit to Marari is not complete
without staying in one of the moored houseboats along the coast of Alappuzha or taking a
backwater cruise in a private boat to enjoy the life of the villages that lie around.
