Spread over 104.27 square kilometres, the Bannerghatta National Park is located just 22 kilometres
to the south of the garden city Bangalore. In the Anekal mountain range, the National Park is
situated at an altitude of 1,245 to 1,634 metres above the sea level. Sixteen villages lie along the
border of the park which is part of the elephant’s corridor connecting the Sathyamangalam forest
and the BR Hills.
At the National Park, there are many things for visitors to do. There is an aquarium, a zoo, a
crocodile farm, a children's park, a prehistoric animals park, a snake park, and a museum. From
families with children to adventure seekers, the Bannerghatta National Park offers something for
everyone. The Butterfly Park, the first of its kind in India, is a major attraction of the National Park. It
has a butterfly conservatory, an audio-visual room, and a museum.
Options for activities include open jeep rides, minibus or van rides, elephant rides, fishing, bird
watching, coracle boat rides, river rafting, and outdoor camping. Some of the trekking options are
Uddigebande (3.5 kilometres), HajjamanaKallu natural rock formation (3 kilometres), and Mirza Hill
(1.5 kilometres). The best time to visit the park is November to June.
